This morning, Radio-Canada released a very interesting short documentary called Le Skatepark. It’s a film about the skateboard industry in Québec, especially around Montreal in the 90s. Being from that skateboard era myself, I’ve skated with a lot of these guys. My first job as a 16 years old teenager was sanding skate decks at Premium (Max Dufour), I used to take the bus for hours to go buy some Soldier Brand because I was in love with the brand (J-P Beauséjour), my dad used to drive me down to the Boucherville skatepark when he had time, I’ve learned my first skate tricks with Dan Vezina at the Taz. 15 years later, I now sell clothing to Phil Grisé’s stores (Empire) and I see Éric Mercier at the office all the time. So it’s a very cool documentary that explains where the whole industry comes from, how all these skater kids in the 90s are now running the skate industry in 2013. I might be younger than these guys, but I remember that era like it was yesterday. I am blessed to work in this skate industry now, because since I first touched a skateboard in 1996, I’ve been obsessed with that lifestyle/sport and just like these guys, I turned my passion into my job. Thanks for this documentary to bring back good old memories, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Ce matin, Radio-Canada a publié un petit documentaire nommé Le Skatepark. C’est un film sur l’industrie du skateboard au Québec, surtout dans la région de Montréal dans les années 90s. Étant de ce skate era moi-même, j’ai skaté avec beaucoup de ces gars là. Mon premier job à 16 ans était de sabler des decks chez Premium Wood (Max Dufour), je prenais le bus pendant des heures pour aller acheter du Soldier Brand car j’étais fou du brand (JP Beauséjour), mon père m’amenait au skatepark de Boucherville quand il avait le temps, j’ai appris mes premiers trucs de skate avec Dan Vezina au Taz… 15 ans plus tard, je vends maintenant des vêtements à Phil Grisé et ses boutiques Empire et je croise Éric Mercier au bureau assez souvent. C’est vraiment un documentaire intéressant qui montre toutes les racines de l’industrie du skate d’aujourd’hui. Je suis plus jeune que ces gars là, mais je me rappelle de cette époque comme si c’était hier. Je suis chanceux de travailler dans l’industrie du skate maintenant, car depuis que j’ai touché mon premier skateboard en 1996, j’en suis devenu obsédé, et tout comme ces gens, j’ai transformé ma passion en mon travail. Merci à ce film pour ramener de bons vieux souvenirs, j’espère que vous l’apprécierez autant que je l’ai apprécié.
